Abstract (EN)

In the history of our national translation, translation has been much more than providing communication. Since the Tanzimat (1839-1876), translation movements have been a tool within the scope of modernization movements in social, intellectual and literary fields. In the Republican period, the leadership of these translation movements was undertaken by the Tercüme journal with the contributions of Hasan Ali Yücel, the minister of national education at the time. Tercüme journal, whose translations are carried out regularly and systematically, has an important place in the history of Turkish translation. While the Tercüme journal, which has been the subject of many studies, is frequently mentioned, no study has been conducted on Yazko Translation journal, which bases its principles on the Tercüme journal. Yazko Translation, which has an important place in our national translation history as it is the third journal that includes translation research, continued its publication life for about 3 years with the efforts of the cooperative despite the difficult conditions at the time it was published. In this study, first of all, the publication policy of the Yazko Translation journal was examined. Based on the examinations made, the place and importance of Yazko Translation journal in the history of Turkish translation has been tried to be determined. In the study, after the history of our national translation within the scope of modernization movements and the conditions of Turkey in the relevant periods are briefly discussed, the historical development of Yazko Translation journal is explained. In line with the purpose of the study, the introductory articles of Yazko Translation journal, works published in the journal, special chapters, all content related to translation including practice and science, language and critique were explained and interpreted. The aim of this study is to fill an important gap in the history of Turkish translation in the context of translation journals and to open the floodgates to research fields such as translation history and translation sociology.
