Urartu architecture in the light of written sources and archaeological data

The Urartian State, whose name is encountered for the first time in Assyrian sources, dates back to BC. In the first quarter of the 13th century BC. They existed on the stage of history until the end of the 7th century. Small principalities live Urartians, BC. In the 9th century, they united against the Assyrian Danger from the south and became a great state. They had the appearance of a strong state with a rapid expansion in the region, whose core was formed by Lake Van, surrounded by the Euphrates in the west, Lake Sevan in the north, Lake Urmiye in the east and the Taurus Mountains in the south. The Urartian State built various structures from the past that were under its domination, and in this way, they succeeded in conveying their culture to the present day. Despite the difficult geographical conditions of the region, they managed to control the trade route rotues by building castles in key areas that were easy to defend. The Urartians continued to develop in agricultural activities as well as in the construction of castles. The Eastern Anatolia Region, which was exposed to some restrictions in terms of agricultural activities before the establisment of the Urartian State, gained fertile agricultural lands with the Urartians construction of various irrigation channels. The inscriptions found on or near the architectural structures have been the elements that carry the Urartian culture to the present. Especially thanks to the archaeological studies carried out in recent years, the Urartians have been recognized all over the world. Thanks to the excavations carried out by Turkish archaeologists, a lot of information was obtained about the plan, function and location of the Urartian structures, which facilitated the evaluation of historical data. İn this study, we will try to examine the civil architecture, castles, temples, open-air sanctuaries, grain warehouses, tombs and irrigation channels that constitutes the Urartian architecture within the framework of the existing archaeological data and the works written on this subject. The fact that the Urartians are a civilization spread over wide geographies makes it difficult to collect data on this subject. Since it is known that the studies carried out are a long and arduous task, it should be known that all scientific studies to be carried out will contribute to the recognition of the Urartian State
