Abstract (EN)

The main purpose of this study is to question the changing nature of the message in oral, written and digital culture and then to reveal how the culture determines the content of the message. The printed enyclopedias which is one of the important symbols of written culture and digital dictionaries which have almost all the features of digital culture have been selected as sample to reach the purpose of the study. In this context "Ana Britannica Enyclopedia" and "Ekşi Sözlük" will be subjected to the discourse analyse and how the same concepts are described how the message differentiates in these media and will be analysed. Because while the structure of the medium determines the message, the message determines the cognitive attitude and intellectual activities of human. In the first chapter of the study, it was dwelled on oral culture and features of the oral culture texts. In the second chapter written culture and changing culture by writing were subjected. In the third chapter the subject of digitalizing of the communication technologies was handled. In the method of the research chapter the content of the "Ana Britannica Enyclopedia" and "Ekşi Sözlük were compared over the same words. As a result we found that printed medium and dijital medium reflect the content in a different way, and they also describe the same concepts differently. While the meanings are static and stable in the printed culture, the meanings are always in the process of change. This conlusion comfirmes our assumption; so we found that the culture and changing media depend on the culture make different the messages too.
