The agones and athletes of Asia Minor during the Roman Imperial Period with the aid of the inscriptions

Sport was one of very important sections of the education in the Prehistoric Period. Every young people in ancient Greece were educated both as mental and as physical. This physical education was bringing musical education as well along with itself and was getting the young people ready to citizenship. As for feeling of contest which is inside of Grek people was very important in lots of part of their life and they worked to became ?good? for every sections. This feeling showed itself in sports as well and in this way the competitions which was called agones (??????) were included in the people?s life.At the begining, the games were prepaned to gladden spirit of dead people at the funeral of the heros and nobles. There was no any festival which was orginazed till B.C. 8th century. The important events like a gathering of the military and funerals were a cause for the organization of the competitions. National Festivals were constituted as well when the city states of Greece. There were four important festivals on the world of ancient Greece. One of them was the Olympia games which was celebrated from the year of B.C. 776 in Elis. This games continued till A.D. 393. The second one was Pythia games in Delphi. As for others were Isthmia in Korinth and Nemea Games in Nemea. Also, every year Panantheneia an done four years Great Panatheneia had been celebrated. These festivals had got a uniting peculiarity for all Grek world. Colonies sent envoys to their main cities for these festivals and especially for the competitions. The agreement of the peace had been made all of the world of Grek in the period which was the games made. For example, during the Olympics, it was forbidden to come close to land in Elis with a gun and the person who came close to land with a gun was fined even was disqualified from the games and couldn?t join it again.The cities of small Asia organized different kinds of local festivala and competitions as well. The festivals and competitions were for local Gods and Heros and they were depends on support of the charity tradesmen. Foundations were formed the organization of these festivals and games. The rules and awards of the competitions which was organized in the cities were usually affected four festivals which was celebrated orderly by ancient Grek society. They kept the same names ? like İsolympia, isopythia and they took the necessary permissions from their base owner. The subject of the competitions were a both athletic, artistic or equestrianism. Usually athletic subject was prefered between them. Local small competitions were just open for local people. As for bigger ones were international (oikoumenik).The Games were two main type. (1) ?????? ?????????, means the games that was with ?money awards?. Thia awards that were called ????? were Money awards near the prestige (thema) in the local competitions. (2) the games that made more prest? were ?with sacred, crown awards? which were called ????? or ?????? ????? ??? ??????????. The award was a crown that was devoted to Gods in this games. But there were lots of evidences about Money, awards. Also, an athlete who won a victory could join to crowd of victory in front of the citizens when the athlete came back to country.As for in Roman Period, the cult of emperor came out in Roman Period and local agones was united with cult of emperor. Also, a new thing came out in the period as well. It?s a fight of gladiator. These fightes that were full of wildness were liked so much in Roman and organized in provinces of Asia Minor as well.
