İnvestigating the qualities of product promotion and engineering design levels in subject of space pollution in 7th graders' science course

The aim of the study is to investigate the qualities of product promotion and engineering design levels in subject of space pollution in 7th graders science course. The participants of the study is 52 students (19 female and 33 male) studying in an imam hatip middle school in Rize in 2019-2020 academic year. In this study, which used embedded single case study design among qualitative research methods, data were collected using engineering design worksheets, audio records, and peer evaluation forms. The engineering design levels were analyzed according to engineering design process rubric, product evaluation rubric, and peer evaluation rubric. The qualities of product promotion were analyzed with oral introduction analysis rubric and quality analysis rubric of the answers. Content analysis was used in engineering design process and content analysis and descriptive analysis were used in product promotion process. It was seen that groups did not perform well in the steps of problem specification, development of design solutions and testing of prototypes among the steps of engineering design process. It was found that groups generally performed well in the steps of choosing the best solution, building the prototype, and presenting it. It was seen that products are appropriate for the engineering design process. It was found that qualities such as appearance, display, and cost of the design get higher points in peer evaluation. It was realized that groups used different strategies in product display. It was found that qualities of the sentences groups used in oral presentations were successful while they couldn't perform well in quality levels of their answers. Implications were provided in line with these results.
