The relationship between eating disorders and personality beliefs: The mediating role of childhood traumas

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the mediating role of childhood traumas in the relationship between eating disorders and personality beliefs was investigated. The sample of the study consists of 741 people between the ages of 18-65. Personal Information Form, Eating Disorder Rating Scale, Personality Belief Scale and Childhood Traumas Scale were administered to the participants online. The data obtained in this study examining the mediating role of childhood traumas in the relationship between eating disorders and personality beliefs, were analyzed through SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 20.0 programs. Statistical analysis and interpretation; It was evaluated according to the significance level of P <.05. Frequency analyzes were applied to determine the distribution of the descriptive characteristics of the participants. Factor analysis, validity and normality tests of the scales were performed. Pearson Correlation Analysis was used to determine the relationships between the variables of the study, Regression Analysis to examine the predictive effects, and Structural Equation Analysis for the mediation effect. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that childhood traumas mediated the relationship between eating disorders and personality beliefs. The findings obtained in the study were evaluated and discussed through the information in the literature.In this research, It was determined that personality beliefs predict eating disorders, childhood traumas predict personality beliefs and childhood traumas also signitficantly predict eating disorders. It has been found that childhood traumas play a mediating role in the relationship between eating disorders and personality beliefs.
