District of Yemen Vazat-Luhye Command Headquarter War journal's transcription and review (II. book, pages: 1-235, 08.09.1331-01.01.1332)

Ottoman Empire was one of the participating states to the World War I, and it had to fight at a lot of battlefront, one of which was Yemen. Yemen got under the dominance of the Empire just after the conquest of Egypt. During the history, it can be observed that Yemen detached from and came under the Ottoman dominance occasionally. Otoman Empire showed maximum effort to last and maintain its dominance over this territory. At the end, it had to recede its army from this battlefront like many other ones. Ottoman Empire fought in Yemen both against Imam Yahya and Seyyid Idrîsî. Seyyid Idrîsî continued the rebellion against Ottoman Empire with the help of Italian and British agents, whereas Imam Yahya endured his loyalty and support for the Empire until the end of the World War due to 1911 treaty. Thus, the war journal that constitutes our study stands as a part of the struggle of Tehame Operational Command against Seyyid İdrîsî at Asir, which was a region at the North of Yemen. War journals are important sources for the sake of war history. They are vital since they represent the lowdowns of many areas such as the psycho-social, economic and political situations. The 2. Book of the War Journal that we studied was started in 08.09.1331 (21 November 1915) and ended in 01.01.1332 (14 March 1916). This journal especially includes the correspondences of Vazat-Luhye Region Commander Galip Bey's with (1881 - 1953) VII. Corps Command, Terhame Operational Command, regional troops, and the sachems in the region. Accordingly, the journal that we studied gives important information about the martial and political tensions at the aforesaid period, and elucidates some unknown facts as well.
