III SUMMARY Ph.D. Thesis Investigation of Selenium on Carp {Cyprinus carpio L.) by Adding to the Food Habibe ÖZMEN Fırat University Graduate School of Aplied Science Depertment of Chemistry 1997, Page: 102 In this study, effect of selenium on Carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) was investigated. Fish were fed with selenium added to food at 2.5, 5.0, 10.0, 20.0 ppm Se (NaaSeCb), in three replicates. Appropriate method and laboratory conditions for selenium analysis were selected. Some chemical parameters in water and food were detected. Selenium levels in liver, kidney, muscle, skin, gill, intestine and feces offish were determined and compaired to control group. Selenium analysis were conducted by using HG-AAS method. Fish fed with food which containing 10.0 and 20.0 ppm Se had dark skin, exophthalmos, edema and swollen stomach and hemorrhage on kaudal and dorsal fins. Results showed that, the accumulation of selenium in tissue and organs increased by the increasing selenium concentration in food. The highest accumulation was occured in liver and the lowest occured in muscle. According to the condition coefficient and Relatve Growth Rate of fish, including control group, growth of fish fed with 2.5 ppm Se was higher than other groups. KEY WORDS: Carp (C.
