In recent years, various heteroaromatic compounds are being synthesized and theirbiological activities are being examined. Especially heterocyclic compounds are beinginvestigated against to cancer cells.For this reason, this study was initiated both for contributing to the class of conjugatedheterocyclic compound and for synthesizing new compounds which may be useful inbiochemical and pharmaceutical studies.9 New 4-thiazolidinone compounds have been synthesized via one-pot reaction ofvarious thiophenecarboxaldehydes (thiophene-2-, 3-methylthiophene-2- and5-methylthiophene-2-carboxaldehyde), 2-amino-6-methylpyridine, andmercaptoalkanoic acids (mercaptoacetic acid and 2-mercaptopropionic acid). Thiscompounds have been characterized with their UV, FT-IR, GC-MS, 1H-NMR,13C-NMR, and NOE spectra.Three of the synthesized compounds have 2 chiral centers in their structure anddiastereomers of these compounds have been separated by column chromatography.Separated diastereomers are characterized as cis- or trans- with NOE diffraction.Keywords: One-pot reaction, 4-Thiazolidinone, NOE, Chiral Center, ChiralCompound, cis- and trans-JURY:1.
