Abstract (EN)

The concept of public space goes back to very old times. Public spaces have undergone great changes with the occurrence of social transformations. Considering the concept of public space, agoras, halls and coffeehouses have gained importance in the historical process. Today, the internet has begun to identify with this concept. With the 21st century, social media platforms, shaped by the influence of the internet, have become the most popular public spaces, rather than being an alternative public space. Sharing in this area has evolved to such an extent as to change the fate of countries and communities. Internet dictionaries, development of other social networking in recent years and the need to start to lose its popularity, the result of the increase in number of users, "Ekşisözlük" many years for free individuals in Turkey somehow has managed to become a social platform to express their thoughts. Its effect and validity continues today. Ekşisözlük, socio-economic level is one of the social channels in which individuals in various statuses and professions can share their thoughts without any censorship. This platform, which contributes to the development of freedom of expression, is discussed in detail in the study. Another topic that directs the study is the European Union. The European Union is a political union that our country desires to be in for many years. There have been many times in the historical process interactions between the Union and Turkey. However, there is also a lot of discussion about whether being in this union will benefit or harm our country. Within the scope of this thesis to be made, first of all, the internet and its possibilities will be discussed as the new communication technology. Later, the concept of the public sphere and issues involving relations between the European Union and Turkey will be examined in detail. Accompanied by these evaluations, entries in the European dictionary called Ekşisözlük will be examined.
