Abstract (EN)

This thesis is a qualitative study that tackles the problem of operationalisation of city planning in objectifying people and negating the integrity of being due to its ontological characteristics dependent to economy and stays in the borders of the Turkish geography.Focusing on the abovementioned problem area of the thesis, firstly, the actual social-ideological structure was examined within the context of the economic, political/societal and ideological planes of societal formation. Secondly, the critiques of Modernist / Industrialist system and the mental productions developed as alternatives to the system were assessed. The condition in Turkey and the previous research on the subject of the thesis were analyzed. As a result of these analyses, a necessity towards a new socialization process for altering the production of the reproduction of the social-ideological structure was put forward, and its framework and contents were defined. Within this perspective, suggestions were made about the non-spatial instruments and spatial expression of the new socialization process. Finally, it is believed that city planning could centralize the human by becoming emancipated from its role as a dependent variable of economy, and thus, becoming a free action area. Within this scope of this thesis, a ''play region'' (Ergin, 1982) understanding which does not include modular mindset or boundedness was proposed in order to sling out the pressure applied by the existing environment on the citizen individuals who are living their childhood.
