Abstract (EN)

Coumarin derivatives are being investigated in medicine and chemistry due to their various biological activities. Some coumarin derivatives are well known as anticoagulant agents. In additon, anti-HIV, antimicrobial and anticancer properties of coumarin derivatives have attrached much attention in last two decade. Moreover, some coumarin derivatives are being used in industry as dye pigments owing to their flourescence properties. After the first isolation of a free and stable NHC by Arduengo, exploitation of NHC's potential in organometallic chemistry began. Today, metal-NHC complexes have an important place in organometallic chemistry as catalysts. In addition, in recent years, studies on pharmaceutical properties of metal-NHC complexes have rapidly increased. In the light of these knowledge, we have synthesized and characterized coumarin containing Ag(I)-, Rh(I), and Ir(I)-NHC complexes. Properties of these complexes were investigated. The studies made within the scope of this thesis can be summarized under seven titles; 1) Eight 1-alkyl-3-coumarin imidazolium (2a-h) and thirteen 1-alkyl-3-coumarin benzimidazolium salts (2i-v) were synthesized and characterized by appropriate spectroscopic techniques. 2) Coumarin containing eight Ag(I)-NHC complexes (3a-h) were synthesized and characterized by appropriate spectroscopic techniques. 3) Coumarin containing nineteen Rh(I)-NHC complexes (4a-t) were synthesized and characterized by appropriate spectroscopic techniques. 4) Coumarin containing nine Ir(I)-NHC complexes (5a-i) were synthesized and characterized by appropriate spectroscopic techniques. 5) Antimicrobial effects of Ag(I)-NHC complexes and corresponding azolium salts were evaluated against Staphylococcus aureus ve Enterococcus faecalis (Gram-positive), Escherichia coli ve Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Gram-negative) bacteria and Candida albicans and Candida tropicalis fungi strains. 6) Catalytic properties of all synthesized Rh(I)-NHC complexes were investigated on hydrophosphination of phenylacetylene. 7) Catalytic properties of all synthesized Ir(I)-NHC complexes were investigated on hyrdosilylation of alkynes.
