To be aware of new media, an analysis on the students of Akdeniz University

It is well known and accepted that communication tools have significant influences on individuals and societies. Social media today is one of the most important of them. The phenomenon of socail media has become an important part of people' lives in a very short time with its wide scope and the powerful effects on the masses. It has started to show its positive and negative effects on individuals first by changeing their perceptions and behaviors. Subsequently, changes in the sociological and cultural characteristics of societies have emerged in different ways. In this context, there have been important changes in the practices of news reporting, both in the production stage of news and in the way that individuals make sense of the news. In this study, it has been tried to show what kind of changes in journalism practices and people's way of dealing with news have emerged with the trasition from traditional media to social media. At this point, new social practices that came along with social media and new related concepts are handled theoretically. After this theoretical basis, it is tried to reveal the direction of change and what they means by surveys conducted with the students of Akdeniz University Faculty of Communication.
