Abstract (EN)

The emergence of new media technologies has led to the emergence of new media formats. Podcasting, which emerged with the iPod device and RSS technology, is one of the new media genres. The widespread use of mobile devices and the Internet has contributed to the increasing popularity of podcasts worldwide. In this study, the aim was to identify the characteristics of popular podcasts that appear at the top of Spotify's Türkiye list. The analyzed podcasts were classified using content analysis method. The study included 20 podcasts that were ranked high on Spotify's podcast list. The research was limited to the most recent twenty episodes published before November 17, 2020. The data was collected from the Spotify channels of the analyzed 20 programs. As a result of the research, it was found that popular podcasts at the top of the list were those where popular hosts shared their own experiences, included elements of humor, had longer episode durations, and directly engaged with the listeners. It was observed that focusing on technical topics and addressing current issues was not very common. It has been observed that producers earning income through podcasts are in the minority It was also found that unknown individuals in traditional media could establish a presence in the podcasting world.
