Abstract (EN)

The new media, which arise from the light of emerging technologies, have both affected the daily life and caused transformations in the art field. Although the term new media is being used frequently, there are some certain problems with the definition and classification of this art form. For this reason, this study focuses on the explanation of the phenomenon of new media art. In the research, interviews have taken place over semi-structured questions with artists, curators and theoreticians in new media art. As a result of these interviews, the interviewees preference of using digital media art or digital arts instead of new media art have been observed. From the answers obtained from the questions that aim to define new media art, interaction, accessibility and being technology oriented have been listed as prominent features of new media art. Besides that, the definition of artist has not changed, however the diversity in production and exhibition spaces and accordingly the role of museums and galleries have changed are among the results of the research. Keywords: New Media, New Media Art, Digital Media, Digital Arts, Space
