Determining material selection criteria in new generetion 3D design applications

Material selection is one of the most critical elements in design; in practice, choosing the most suitable material to meet an application's needs is quite challenging. Selecting the wrong material during the design process can lead to difficult and costly problems in final products later on. A designer's good material knowledge becomes a significant advantage during material selection. The ability of all designs to be improved or adapted provides great convenience for any design optimization in later stages. In this study, necessary modifications were made to the existing crane eye design used for towing broken-down metrobuses, and the materials used in the system were changed. The system was then compared with the previous one based on the altered materials. Loads that the system would be subjected to were applied using SolidWorks software, allowing for the simulation of static and dynamic load analyses that the new design would encounter, and the system's behavior was observed. Comparative analyses were conducted for both the existing and new designs, and safety factors were calculated based on the obtained stress, deformation, and displacement values. The calculations and analysis results indicate that the new design is sufficient in terms of durability and can maintain its function under operating conditions without experiencing any structural problems. As a result, this study has yielded a more reliable, durable, and long-lasting system design. Based on the obtained data, the new design is expected to operate without issues under the loads it will be subjected to.
