Neo-Medievalism and its architectural traces in the Mediterranean: the case of Antalya

Postmodern Neomedievalism (or Postmodern Neo-medievalism) is a concept that emerged with the combination of the words neo and medievalism. Today, in general, Neomedievalism is frequently used as a technique of taking the reality which revealed by Medievalism and evaluating it with a different alternative. While this evaluation can be an alternative processing of History, it can also be presented as if it is a part of the Medieval Culture by combining existing medieval elements with post-modern concepts. It is possible to see the reborn Middle Ages in hotels that resemble the medieval buildings, amusement parks equipped with medieval fantastic creatures, video games and more. This study discussed with the concept of Neomedievalism and the Medievalism that theoretically feeds Neomedievalism. In addiction, The thesis argued with the existence of the concept in today's Mediterranean culture by making reference to the psychological and sociological analyzes in the re-emerging Middle Ages, and examined the examples of the Neomedieval outlook and reflection in Antalya on the basis of structures. The scope of the study is conceptually Medievalism and Neomedievalism, and it is limited to the effect of Neomedievalism on the architectural features of the structures in Antalya, one of the main tourism cities of the Mediterranean basin.
