The Representation of new middle classes in new Turkish cinema

In this study, the representations of new middle classes in the new Turkish cinema is presented in the light of the habitus concept, which includes the social as well as the individual and can be read from the individual's preferences. In a period when individualization has increased, the preferences and tastes of secular and conservative middle classes in the new Turkish cinema, which gives importance to the narrative through the individual, have been tried to be revealed. In addition, it was investigated how political, economic, cultural and social change and transformation that took place after year 2000 in Turkey reflected on the cultural product representations. The representation of the social class in Turkey, which is divided into two groups as secular and conservative new middle classes, was analyzed by the qualitative content analysis method with the coding form created around Bourdieu's capital types, the consumption and likes of the main characters in the six films included in the sample. According to the results obtained in the study, the common point that secular and conservative new middle classes meet in the light of cultural representations in the films is neoliberal values, although there are differences in terms of capital types. In yet been put forward Turkey's secular and conservative in social and cultural structures that reflected the cultural representation in the Turkish cinema can be read from the new middle class and cultural representation of social change. Again it was revealed that the new secular and conservative middle classes in public and cultural structure of Turkey reflect to cultural performances in Turkish cinema and that the public transformation can be read through cultural perfromances.
