Abstract (EN)
The fact that total parenteral nutrition is a widely used treatment method in neonatal intensive care units (NICU) increases the responsibility of newborn intensive care nurses. It is important for nurses to apply their knowledge of total parenteral nutrition in the clinic, as it is a life-saving nutrition method. The quasi-experimental study was conducted in Adana-Turkey, between February 1 and May 3, 2021 to examine the effect of training given to Newborn Intensive Care Nurses on total parenteral nutrition. The socio-demographic data of the nurses and an information form about TPN were used in the study, which was applied with the voluntary participation of 40 nurses working in the neonatal intensive care 1 and neonatal intensive care 2 units of Çukurova University Medical Faculty Balcalı Hospital. The research was applied as face-to-face pre-test (ET) and post-test (ST) by explaining the purpose, indications, complications, and what to do before, during and after the application of TPN. The prepared training was given interactively with a 30-minute power point presentation on TPN indications, complications, application steps, and nurses' responsibilities. A statistically significant difference was found in favor of the post-test in terms of nurses' pre-test/post-test knowledge scores (p<0.05). As a result of the research, H1 hypothesis as "total parenteral nutrition education given to nurses has an effect on knowledge score" was accepted. The positive effect of the training given to nurses draws attention to the importance of in-service training. Key words: Total Parenteral Nutrition, Child Health and Diseases Nursing, Newborn.
