Abstract (EN)
Objective: Research was done descriptive study to investigate noise and lighting conditions in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Suleyman Demirel University Research and Application Hospital. Method: The research was carried out between 01.05.2018-09.11.2018 in order to determine current noise and lighting conditions in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Data were collected by measurement and observation methods. Measurements were made with volume measurement devices and lighting measurement devices. Observations were made different time periods of day and shift change hours by taking into consideration the number of shift change hours, treatment hours, care hours and visiting hours different days of week. The sampling was not determined for measurements and observations, and were stopped when the same results began to repeat and reached the saturation point. Observations were recorded Observation Forms for Noise and Lighting Sources. Data was analyzed SPPS.20 packaged program. Results: End of the study, the noise level defined as the background noise level without any intervention, speaking and noise action was 64.9 dB(A) and instantaneous maximum noise level was 122.3 dB(A). Noise and lighting levels were higher than weekend of weekdays. Noise and lighting level at 08:00-16:00 was higher than other working hours. According to study data, the noise level was found significantly higher than the American Academy of Pediatrics recommended noise levels. illumination level was determined among the recommended values on the days of the weekend and it was generally exceed these values during the week days. Conclusion: Ambient noise and lighting levels are high for newborns with insufficient defense systems and needing high level care. Key words: lighting, noise, nurse, neonatal intensive care unit
