Effects of different cultivation methods on the yield and quality characteristics of the edible flower chinese carnation (dianthus chinensis L.)

This study was conducted on the cultivation of China pink (Dianthus chinensis L.), whose flowers are edible, in an unheated greenhouse in 2024-2025. In the study, plant development and some flower characteristics of China pink species in different growing environments were determined. Peat+perlite (3:1), cocopeat and hydroponic system were used as growing media in the experiment. The experiments were designed with 3 replications and 16 plants in each replication. In the research, morphological and physiological parameters such as plant height, plant diameter, flower diameter, flower yield, fresh and dry weights of plants, root characteristics, leaf area, leaf and main branch numbers, phenolic substance, flavonoid substance and antioxidant contents were examined. Comparisons were made between environments by averaging the data obtained from the plants throughout the experiment. While cocopeat medium came to the forefront in terms of phenolic and flavonoid content, plant height, plant diameter, flower diameter and leaf area, peat+perlite (3:1) medium gave higher results in terms of branching number, root and stem weights, root diameter and flower yield. When the research results were examined, it was determined that peat + perlite (3:1) or cocopeat media could be used as alternatives to each other in the cultivation of China pink (Dianthus chinensis L.) species, whose flowers are edible, as an edible flower. In addition, it has been concluded that it has the potential to be preferred as an alternative variety in the field of gastronomy thanks to its healthy ingredients and aesthetic appearance.
