Promotion of renewable energy resources in the public sector: Eskişehir Tepebaşı Municipality practices

Heating and lighting of our homes, production, and transportation sectors, as well as our social needs are all among the inputs of energy, which is a vital part of the modern world and one of the indicators of a country's development, economic growth, and welfare. With the exacerbated demand for energy, the importance of sustainable energy sources has increased. It is emphasized that diversification of energy sources is extremely important, especially for countries dependent on foreign energy sources. In recent years, the increased population, economic development, greater energy demand, and climate change, accelerated the focus towards the renewable energy sources. In this study, the concept of energy as well as both renewable and nonrenewable energy sources are examined. It also looks at the applications carried out in various cities of Turkey for the promotion of renewable energy sources in the public sector and evaluates the exemplary practices of Tepebaşı Municipality in Eskişehir. The study explores the role that local governments can play in creating and implementing sustainable energy policies.
