Abstract (EN)

One of the purposes of developing teaching programs is to increase the quality of education by innovating existing programs and adjusting targeted behaviours. The necessity of reflecting these improvements to the teaching programs is incontestable. The considerable researches have taken place in the the Turkey about this subject. The program developing studies which are implemented gradually at the primary education level have been initially applied to the first stage of primary school in pilot schools that are determined by Ministry of National Education (MNE). This work aims to answer the following questions: What are the efficiency of the sixth year?s renewed program of social studies in implication in the sense of advantages, concept, education level, measurement and evaluation? And, what are the suggestions of the teachers for implementing the lectures of the social studies more effective and more efficient? This work was conducted by critically using library and internet sources (literature review) about this subject and then a survey was conducted to gather related data from the Teachers. This survey has conducted on social studies teachers teaching at the sixth year in the province of Sakarya in the academic year of 2006- 2007. At the final stage, the datum extracted from the survey which has had 100 % feed back, has been analyzed. This paper has 3 sections. The first section contains basic concepts, different types of education and programs, benefits and properties of education program, definition and significance of social studies, the etymology of social studies, the purpose of the Turkish National Education and social studies lecture, learning fields, sections and the processes of the social studies lectures in the sixth year. The second section contains the methodology, the model, the total field under survey, the samples, the way of gathering and analyzing the datum. The final section contains the information about teachers related to their personal and occupational lives and their suggestions for the implementing the lectures of the social studies more effective and more efficient. Finally, the dissertation has completed according to the results posed above. The questionnaire is composed of nine questions that is related to the personal and occupational information about the teachers and thirty two questions that is related to effectiveness of social studies lectures in the sixth year. The SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) program is used to analyze datum. The data has gathered by using t test in two variable questions and f test three and more variable questions. P<0.05 confidence interval is used to test the relation between variables regarding signifance level. Finally following results have been found: 1.The new social studies lecture program in the sixth year that is evaluated by teacher has been found mid level positive. 2. The existing new social studies lecture program is not sufficient in the sense of advantages, concept, education level, measurement and evaluation. Thus for a more effective, more successful , more efficient and more beneficial education new sixth year social studies lecture program should be reviewed, evaluated ,developed and it should be provided continuity of these studies in these four basic aspects by all related experts and researchers. Furthermore, it is suggested that training programs should be implemented and incentive legal arrangements should be drafted.
