Abstract (EN)
This study comprises the settlements in Yenişehir Plain. In the area there exist seventeen village settlements and the county town, Yenişehir. The population of sixteen villages, so far, has declined except for a village not affected by emigration due to its being close to the county town. In addition, Yenişehir has become a town, the population of which is constantly on the increase.Being the first capital of the Ottoman Empire, Yenişehir is a settlement where in history crucial events and progress took place. In the study, we are informed about not only the structural features, population and economic characteristics of the rural settlements in the plain; but also those of the urban settlement, which is Yenişehir. These data are handled comparatively and they have been made available for analogy. The focus has been on agriculture and agricultural industry, which is due to its being means of living. Besides being an old settlement, Yenişehir has become a mixed structural town in which modern buildings rises owing to the developing economy.The founding of the airfield, the coming of the industrial units due to the newly established organized industry, and the application of the agricultural production in a more modern way have expanded the economic input to the town. Moreover, these have enabled lengthwise settlement to gather speed, and sub-structural services to be presented in a better quality. With such services as transport services, medical services, banking services and entertainment and sport facilities; local activities have gained speed.This study, in the light of various statistical data, findings, questionnaire, interview and observations on the area; puts forward the changing format of Yenişehir and its villages.Key Words: Yenişehir Plain, Population, Settlement, Organized Industry, Rural Settlements
