Abstract (EN)

In this project, flow characterization, fire and burning processes in closed volumes like ?subway stations?, are inspected. In the first stage, a small scaled heat resistant subway station model is made to analyze the accuracy of a CFD software. The model produced as a half model due to symmetry and the symmetry axis is closed by a heat resistant glass which allows seeing inside of the model. the experiments are recorded from heat resistant glass window via digital recording devices. The experiments include flow visualization with smoke generator, no ventilation fire case, simulation of fire under piston effect cases. Fire experiment performed in small scaled model with zero piston effect and uniform inlet velocities, results obtained from experiments recorded to a database. In the second stage, digital model of the small scaled experimental model is generated and numerical simulations of the experiments repeated by using a commercial CFD software. There are lots of algorithms for both simulation of turbulence and burning process so it is needed to determine most suitable models. Due to high number of turbulence and combustion models, the combinations of the simulations will be excessive. For this reason, before starting CFD simulations, the theoretical research is performed in order to eliminate the models wich can not represent the simulation in the closed volumes. The results of CFD simulations also compared with the database which is obtained by experimental data and the most suitable parameters for simulating fire under flow is obtained. The comparison of the simulatinon results and experimental data shows that the numerical simulation has obtained the flow characteristic well enough and also the velocities calculated are also highly accurate.
