Prof. Dr. Hasan ÇETİN : Prof. Dr. Halime PAKSOY The aim of this study is to find out boundary conditions in aquifer thermal energy storage (ATES) and borehole thermal energy storage (BTES) systems, which is the most feasible, both economically and technically the underground thermal energy storage (UTES) techniques. In ATES and BTES techniques, underground is used as a storage medium; therefore geological and hydrogeological parameters of the target area play an important role. A extensive geological and hydrogeological research is essential in order to select the type and the capacity of UTES techniques for a successful design, economic and appropriate application and also security of the projects. For this purpose, two research areas were selected and two different exploratory wells were drilled in order to investigate the geological and hydrogeological parameters in detail. Key Words: undergroud thermal energy storage, aquifer thermal energy storage, borehole thermal energy storage, geological and hydrogeological parameters II
