Measuring the perceptions of local people about the effects of tourism (Midyat example)

The tourism sector, which shows rapid growth around the world and is seen as a source of money between regions, is preferred by many countries. With the development of the tourism sector, many positive and negative effects occur. The main of these effects are economic, environmental and sociocultural effects. The resulting effects of tourism are felt most on the local people. It becomes an important issue to measure the attitudes and behaviors of the local people towards tourism activities and the fact that the local people are so affected by tourism. Midyat district, which has an important attraction in terms of its historical, religious and cultural effects, is considered an important touristic destination thanks to both national and international tourism movements. In the study, survey method was used to determine the perceptions of the people of the region in Midyat district towards the development of tourism and the social, environmental and economic effects affected by the tourism sector. In order to test the hypotheses created for the research, the perceptions of the people of the region towards the development of tourism and their economic effects are examined. In addition, various tests were carried out to determine the answers of the people of the region towards the development of tourism. Normal distribution analysis was performed to measure the suitability of the expressions in the questionnaire for analysis. Frequency analysis was applied to see the distribution of survey expressions on demographic questions. Tests were conducted for the mean and standard deviations of the statements directed to the local people of Midyat.
