Indigenous motifs are the motifs which belong to a specific region, culture, and the society. The geography, the belief system, the life style, and the flora of a region play an important role in the design of the motifs. Traditional arts are nurtured by the magnificent colors and motifs, and thus always inspire the artist. The thesis named "The Interpretation of Indigenous Motifs " is written considering the fact that contemporary artists are inspired by traditional arts and indigenous motifs while they are developing a modernist and creative form of art in today's global world. The thesis, which is based on research and application, is a study about an artist's creation of an artistic form of language as a way of expressing herself through searching the use of indigenous motifs in contemporary art. As the works of art produced in this study are not limited to Anatolian motifs, different traditional motifs from various parts of the world are also represented believing that traditional motifs are the cultural heritage of mankind. Thus, the aim of the study has become going out of the locality to reach universality
