For the evaluation of occupational health and safety in local administrations application of employee survey: A district municipality in Ankara

Since occupational health and safety is a social problem, it has to be directly or indirectly responsible socially. Approaches of businesses in occupational health and safety are also seen as very important. Achieving competitive advantage in working life and moving towards strategic goals, keeping up with the trends of change and being sustainable will be possible by offering a safe and healthy business life to the human resources of the organizations. Occupational health and safety studies are carried out with the aim of protecting employees from occupational diseases and work accidents and ensuring that the employees do business in much healthier conditions. As a result of accidents, employees cause serious losses for the employer and the national economy. In order to prevent these, a risk management system should be established and systematic studies should be conducted and awareness should be created for employees by creating occupational health and safety awareness. The purpose of this study within the scope of this general information; to measure occupational health and safety awareness in municipalities which are local authorities. In this study, 255 employees working in General Directorate of Parks and Gardens of Keçiören Municipality of Ankara were interviewed. The obtained data were analyzed in SPSS program. Significant differences were found in employees' perceptions of occupational health and safety according to marital status, age and gender. It is determined that employees have positive perception about occupational health and safety in general.
