Abstract (EN)

The study area, which includes an abandoned mine site in Kayıçivi Village of Korgun district of Çankırı province, is located on 178 islands and 151 parcels. The coal mine, located approximately 30 km away from Çankırı province, is 5.8 hectares in size. In this study, it is aimed to reorganize the inefficient and bad-looking areas in the mining areas after the operation to enable different uses and to reintroduce them to nature. The soils taken from the study area were evaluated as a result of analyses. The soil texture has a clayey structure. When evaluated in terms of the lime (CaCO3) content of the coal mine, it is classified as lime-free. The soil of the study area is rich in organic matter. The pH values of the soils are slightly acidic. The entire soil of the study area is salt-free. In the study area, desertification risk was calculated using the desertification criteria and indicators prescribed by the DIS4ME (Desertification Indicator System for Mediterranean Europe) system, which was developed to determine the desertification criteria and indicators of Mediterranean countries, and the average value of desertification risk is 7.46, which is in the high risk class. It has been concluded that the risk of desertification can be reduced as a result of rehabilitation works to be carried out in the area.
