The analysis of green roof systems in terms of construction

Green roofs, also called roof gardens, were initially designed to create places where people feel comfortable. With the help of increasing technological possibilities, their many benefits are scientifically proven today. In addition, various regulations and special systems appear according to their usage.Green roofs and green roof industry has advanced, especially in countries like Germany. Meanwhile companies and firms published documents on specific topics regarding operation and construction methods, which were developed in order to open the horizon for green roof designers.In our country, although information is more limitedly available, major companies operating in this field can be contacted about the making of green roof systems, therefore making use of national and international sources possible.The study consists of five chapters;In the first chapter, the aim and scope of the study, relevant definitions, standards and institutions, and historical development of green roofs is given.In the second chapter, detailed description of green roofs, and green roof practices today, as well as variations of green roofs are discussed from ecological, social and economic benefit, and limitation aspects.In the third chapter, the making of green roof systems are examined in detail. First, the criteria related to the initial design of the green roof system design issues that need to be taken into account in accordance with the land and structure factors are described. Afterwards, the layers of the green roof system is studied in detail. In addition, the construction process is described to provide more information on the operation and general maintenance issues.In the fourth chapter, major -domestic and abroad- projects, selected due to the information and criteria provided in first three chapters of the study are discussed and compared.In the conclusion, the results obtained from the study are explained, and additional comments, suggestions and evaluations are made.Keywords: Construction, system, green roof, garden roof.
