Abstract (EN)

This study examines the student-centered alcohol prevention activities organized by Green Crescent, the pioneering organization of the anti-alcohol movement in Turkey between 1928 and 1945, and Türkiye İçki Aleyhdarı Gençler Cemiyeti (Turkish Temperance Youth League), which was founded based on the ideals of Green Crescent. Within the scope of the study, both the qualitative characteristics and the organizational structures of these activities are explored, and their multifaceted relationship with education is evaluated. The research employs the content analysis method, one of the qualitative research techniques that enables the examination of historical data. In this context, the primary source is Green Crescent Journal, published by Green Crescent and Turkish Temperance Youth League during the relevant period. Additionally, to enhance the accessibility of the sources and contribute to future academic studies, the research includes an annotated index of documents from Green Crescent Journal. The data obtained from the examined documents reveal that the student activities organized by Yeşilay Cemiyeti and Gençler Cemiyeti not only aimed to raise awareness against alcohol but also offered a comprehensive process of informal education for the youth of the period. Activities carried out through events such as ceremonial gatherings, conferences, congresses, tea receptions, excursions, as well as the Green Day and Grape Day celebrations, reveal the association's multi-layered relationship with the educational system of the period and its functionality within the context of informal education.
