Vocabulary analysis of Yeşim Saygın Armutak's adventure novels

Language is the most important and comprehensive tool that enables people to share their feelings, thoughts, dreams, feelings and expectations with other people, to understand and be understood, and to communicate among themselves. A person's ability to use language effectively and to express himself well depends on having a rich vocabulary. Considering the language development of people in childhood; The importance of works within the scope of children's literature in enriching a person's vocabulary emerges. When we look at the vocabulary in terms of language; Vocabulary is considered as the most important indicator of the richness and expressive power of a language. Vocabulary; It expresses all the elements such as words, proverbs, idioms, reduplications, relation words and terms of the language it belongs to. Research on vocabulary has an important value in terms of showing the change and development of a language in the historical process. In this study, it is aimed to determine the linguistic elements that make up the vocabulary of Yeşim SAYGIN ARMUTAK's adventure novels and to determine the frequency of use of these elements. Since the data source of this study is written works belonging to an author, a documentary scan was made and the data were obtained as a result of the examination of the relevant documents. In this study, sampling was not determined since all of the works that were the subject of the research were examined and evaluated. The data of the study were collected from Yeşim SAYGIN ARMUTAK's works titled "Günlükte Saklı Sırlar, Baykuş Yemini, Bataklığın Kıyısındaki Ev, Mızıkacı ve Hayaletli Gölün Çocukları". Novels were analyzed by content analysis method. One of the content analysis types, the "categorical analysis" technique was used. In the study, the main category of "Turkish vocabulary"; "Proverbs, idioms, reduplications, relationship words, reinforced words, terms, slang words, foreign words and filler words" were determined as sub-categories. The five novels of the author were scanned in terms of these sub-categories, and the vocabulary items in each book were classified in alphabetical order in accordance with the relevant category titles. Based on the data obtained, frequency and percentage calculations were made and these calculations were shown in tables. In this study, it was concluded that the author included many elements of vocabulary in his novels. It has been seen that foreign words, idioms and reduplications have a large place among these elements, respectively. In addition, the use of relationship words, terms, slang words, reinforced words and filler words in the author's novels were also determined. As for the proverbs; only one example has been identified in the novel "Günlükte Saklı Sırlar". In all of the author's novels, many terms related to fields such as plant science, biology, literature, animal science, music and medicine have been identified. When the novels are considered in terms of foreign words; mostly Arabic, Persian and French origin words were encountered.
