Examining the relationship between adult separation anxiety and difficulty in emotion regulation and expressing emotions

Abstract (EN)

The main purpose of the study is to determine the relationship between adult separation anxiety and difficulty in regulating emotions and expressing emotions. For this purpose, the Adult Separation Anxiety Questionnaire, Difficulty in Emotion Regulation-8 Scale and Expressing Emotions Scale were administered to a total of 483 participants between the ages of 18-60. The data obtained from the research were analyzed using the SPSS program. As a result of the analysis; It has been observed that as the level of separation anxiety increases, the level of difficulty in emotion regulation and the level of expressing emotions increase. It has been determined that as the level of emotion regulation difficulty increases, the level of expressing emotions also increases. Women's levels of separation anxiety, difficulty in regulating emotions, and expressing emotions were found to be higher than men. Separation anxiety, emotion regulation difficulties and emotional expression levels of the 26-35 age group were found to be higher than both the 18-25 age group and the 36-60 age group. Separation anxiety and difficulty in emotional regulation do not show any significant difference according to educational status. However, expressing emotions varies depending on the educational level. The level of emotional expression of undergraduate and graduate graduates was found to be higher than high school graduates or below. The separation anxiety level of married participants is higher than that of single participants; Married participants' level of emotion regulation difficulty was higher than divorced participants'; The level of emotional expression of married participants was found to be higher than single and divorced participants. The separation anxiety and emotion regulation difficulty levels of the participants who had previously received psychological support were found to be higher than the participants who had not received psychological support before. However, expressing emotions does not show a significant difference according to previous psychological support.
