Abstract (EN)

Menstrual pain, is one of the important symptoms that are frequently mentioned in women with regular menstrual cycles and negatively affect the quality of life. This study was conducted to observe the change in pain following the application of a low glycemic index diet based on the food consumption frequency of women with menstrual pain. The study was conducted on 34 women aged 19-52 years, who did not have any chronic diseases, who applied to three different nutrition and diet clinics between March 2021 and May 2021. The nutritional habits and menstrual pain severity were determined by applying a questionnaire form to the individuals participating in the study. In addition, anthropometric measurements of individuals were made and menstrual pain severity was determined numerically by using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Daily energy, macro and micronutrient values and glycemic index of their diets were calculated by taking food consumption frequency and food consumption record. Inbody 120 device was used for body analysis. The mean age of the individuals participating in the study was 30.6±9.2 years, the mean height is 167.5±5.6 cm, the mean body weight was 72.5±11.4 kg, the body mass index was 25.3±3.8 kg/ m2 was found. As a result of the study, the mean of the glycemic index level before and after the dietary intervention were examined with the dependent t-test and it was observed that the glycemic index score decreased significantly after the diet intervention (p<0.05). The mean pre-diet VAS score of the women was 5.89, and the post-diet VAS mean score was 4.37, which decreased significantly between the pre-diet and post-diet mean scores. (p<0.05). As a result; A high glycemic index diet may be a risk factor for the presence and severity of menstrual pain. Diets with a low glycemic index may be effective in the prevention and treatment of menstrual pain in women.
