Abstract (EN)

Tibial plateau fracture with different articular compression, displacement, and soft tissue injury still seems to be a difficult problem in spite of improved surgical techniques and implants. The aim of this study assess the long term functional results, the effect of fracture type and age on success and complication rates by comparing the results were surgically treated patients because of tibial plateau fractures in Fırat University Faculty of Medicine, Orthopaedics and Traumatology Department between May 1985 and January 2013 A total of 25 cases, 10 of which are women and the rest is men, were included in the scope of thesis and the cases were examined retrospectively. The patients were examined within 3 groups during the operations applied. 1. Group was open reduction and internal fixation with canule screw, group 2 was open reduction and internal fixation with plate and the third group was closed reduction percutaneous fixation. Each group was analyzed as per Rasmussen clinical and Resnic - Niwoyama radiological evaluation score. Considering the criterion for clinical evaluation, good andexcellent results were obtained for 15 cases in group 1 and group 2, and for 10 cases in group 3 which are 60%and 100%, respectively. When examining the radiological evaluation, the successful results for all groups was 60%. Low energy, anatomical reduction and knee stability were found to be the most important parameters in determining mid term prognosis according to knee and functional scores. Tibial plateau fractures are articular fractures, proper surgical method should be selected by taking into consideration the type and area of fracture, degree of migration and fracture, and the accompanying damages of bone and soft tissue. Key Words: Rasmussen score, tibial plateau fracture, damages of bone and soft tissue
