The effect of the training received on physical restraint by nurses working in adult intensive care units on knowledge, attitude and practices : Randomized controlled study

This research is pretest posttest designed prospective randomized controlled research regarding the examination of the effect of educations aimed at physical restraint performed by nurses employed in Adult Intensive Care Units on knowledge attitude and practise. The sample was created of 85 nurses employed in the intensive care unit of Training and Research Hospital. Intervention and control group distributed homogeneously in the beginning of the research.(p>0.05). The research data implemented between January-March, 2023 was combined with Sociodemographic and Physical Determination Application survey oriented specialties and knowledge level oriented nurses physical determined usage combined with scale of attitude and practise. Number, percentage, average, standars deviation, t test, anova test, bonferroni test, chi square and fisher's exact test were chosen in data analysis. It was determined that there was a significant increase in the average knowledge, attitude and practice scores of the nurses in the intervention group towards physical restraint application in after training and 1.month monitoring compared to pre-training.(P>0,001). Interventation group's average point of knowledge and attitude in after-trainig and 1.month monitoring besides application point average in 1.month monitoring is higher than control group.(p<0,001). Consequently, training programmes aimed at physical restraint affects knowledge and practise of nurses positively. Maintaining these applications with inservice training and repeating periodically can be recommended. Key Words: Physical Restraint, Adult Intensive Care,Nursery, Training
