Adaptation of activity questionnaire for adults and adolescents to Turkish, investigation of validity and reliability

The aim of this study was to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Activity Questionnaire for Adults and Adolescents (AQuAA), which was developed to evaluate physical activity levels in different age groups. The study included 124 volunteers with a mean age of 19.21 ± 8.28 years without any physical disability or disease restricting their daily living activities. Adaptation of Turkish version of AQuAA was carried out following the protocol proposed by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) for cross cultural adaptation studies. After the socio-demographic information was recorded to the individuals included in the study, International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form (IPAQ-Short) was applied to investigate the AQuAA's criterion validity, the number of steps was followed for 2 weeks from the smart phone pedometer application (Samsung Health®) to investigate the AQuAA's construct validity, investigate to test-retest reliability, AQuAA was applied 2 times with 2-week intervals. Statistical significance level was taken as p ≤0.05 and SPSS (ver. 24) program was used for data analysis. In all people; total and subscale (sedentary, mild, moderate and severe) physical activity scores were found to be high intra class correlations. The criterion validity of total and subscale physical activity scores of AQuAA and IPAQ-Short total physical activity scores were confirmed. In this study, the total and subscale physical activity subscore of AQuAA had a criterition validity and were found to be reliable with the total score of IPAQ-Short. In addition, it is found that AQuAA is useable for asssessment of physical activity both adolescents and adults.
