The mediating role of emotional intelligence in the relationship between anxiety and intolerance of uncertainty in adults

Özet (EN)

This study was conducted to investigate the mediating role of emotional intelligence in the relationship between intolerance of uncertainty and anxiety. In addition, the relationship between intolerance of uncertainty, anxiety and emotional intelligence and whether these variables differ according to demographic variables were also examined. The sample of the study consists of 402 people aged 18 and over who were reached by snowball sampling method through social media and who accepted voluntary participation in the study. In this study, relational scanning model and mediating variable model were used. Demographic Information Form, Beck Anxiety Inventory, Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale (IUS-12) and Revised Schutte Emotional Intelligence Scale were used to collect the data. Pearson correlation analysis, Spearman correlation analysis, bootstrap analysis, independent sample t-test, Kruskal Wallis test and one way ANOVA test were used to analyze the data. As a result, it was determined that intolerance of uncertainty, anxiety and emotional intelligence had a statistically significant relationship with each other; and intolerance of uncertainty predicted emotional intelligence and anxiety, and emotional intelligence predicted anxiety. Also, it was determined that emotional intelligence mediated between intolerance of uncertainty and anxiety.
