The relationship between early maladaptive schemas and procrastination and attachment styles in adults

This study aimed to examine the relationship between early maladaptive schemas, procrastination behavior and attachment styles. Informed Consent Form, Sociodemographic Information Form, Young Schema Questionnaire-Short Form 3, General Procrastination Scale, Experiences in Close Relationships-Revised were used in this research. 508 people who are between the ages of 18-65 participated in this research. Independent sample t-test and one-way ANOVA were applied to compare early maladaptive schema domains, procrastination behaviour and attachment dimensions in terms of sociodemographic variables. Pearson Correlation was used to examine the relationship between procrastination behavior, early maladaptive schemas and attachment styles. Hierarchical regression analysis was performed to determine the variables predicting the procrastination behavior. According to the results of this research; failure, approval-seeking, exclusivity, punitiveness (negative) schemas and anxious attachment dimension predict procrastination behavior. There were significant differences between the groups in procrastination behavior, which was considered as the dependent variable, according to the variables of age, education level, relationship status, having children, working status, income level and living with.
