Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, non-linear static and dynamic analyses of masonry walls are performed. Smeared crack model which includes the strain softening behavior is used for masonry wall material. For this purpose, a computer program was written in MATLAB language which has the ability of performing non-linear static and dynamic analysis. In addition, a mesh program which meshes the wall as two or three dimensional model was written in MATLAB language.The thesis consists of six chapters. The first chapter contains introduction and literature studies. In the second chapter, materials used in masonry structures and structural systems of masonry which are built in our country and world are explained. In the third chapter, design requirements and modeling techniques of masonry structures are described. In the fourth chapter, the smeared crack model and a computation algorithm which is used in dynamic solution are explained. Numerical applications are given in the fifth chapter. For numerical applications, non-linear static and dynamic analyses of a masonry wall with a window are performed. For dynamic input, 13 March 1992 Erzincan and 1 May 2003 Bingöl earthquake records are used. In non-linear static analysis, the effects of opening dimension, tensile strength of material and bond beam on masonry wall behavior are investigated. In non-linear dynamic analysis, the effects of different earthquake records on masonry wall behavior are studied. The results are summarized in the last chapter of the thesis.
