Knowledge level examination about premature infants care of the mothers who have babies staying in intensive care unit

Its known premature infants need more special attention and care than term infants and in terms of health are known to be at greater risk. Neonatal nurses should help mother by informing and teaching practices about the infant care during the stay in hospital and after diacarge terms. This research was made with the aim of examination the descriptive nature of premature babiea satayed in intensive care unit of a private hospital in provibce of Samsun. A survey covering 28 questions related with premature infant feeding, infant care after feeding, propertiesof premature lying place, bath, drees, navel care, skin- mucosa careand actions needed for temperature run was conducted to tje partipicant mother. Satatistical analysis was performed by using SPSS 20.0 packaged soft ware. Number(n), perceptage (%), frequency, mean, standart deviation were used as parameters for data analysis. In order to determine the knowledge level of mothers, non- parametric Mann Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis tests were applied. Statistical significance level was considered as p<0,05. According to the data obtained drom the survey, dirst well known topic is skin- mucoza care with the ratio %68,3 and the least known tipic is properties of the lying place of premature infants with the proportion of %17,7. The avarage knowledge level of mothers around all premature infant care topic is found as %57,2. No significant corrlation (p>0,05) found between the knowledge level of mothers and mothers' age, educational level, family type, perception of income and expenses. On rhe otherhand, a significant corelrelation (p<0,05) was found between knowledge level of mothers and the previous experience of having premature infant. The knowledge level of mothers who have the premature birth history is higher than the ones who have no history.
