Abstract (EN)

MRSA increasingly seen has become a serious problem particularly in intensive care units. This situation has brought the problems of prolonged hospital stay increased costs and antibiotic resistance caused by inappropriate use of antibiotics. This study aims to determine Methicillin resistance in MRSA, which causer increasing mortality and morbidity,more quickly and reliably.Nasal swab samples were taken from pantients in intensive care units within the first 24 hours of hospital admission. GeneXpert real-time PCR method were used for rapid detection of MRSA. The results obtained with this method were compared with the results of methods Vitek 2, Phoenix, Cefoxitin DDT and Chrom ID agar. In this study, samples were taken with three nasal swaps 90 patients. The first swap was used for GeneXpert real-time PCR method. The second swap was inoculated on blood agar. Gram staining was performed by blood agar showed growth colonies. Identification and sensitivities of those with Gram-positive cocci morphology were determined by Vitek2 and Phoenix. The Third swap was inoculated on Chrom ID agar. 14 of 90 samples ( % 15 ) with GeneXpert, 4 of 90 samples ( %4.4 ) with Vitek2 and Phoenix and 5 of 90 samples ( % 5.5 ) with Chrom ID agar test were found to be MRSA. Results were obtained in 70 minutes with GeneXpert.Detection of methicillin resistance in staphylococci by phenotypical methods often leads to false results. As a result of the study, we concluded that GeneXpert real-time PCR assay for detection of MRSA is rapid and reliable test.
