Abstract (EN)

In vitro activities various antimicrobials against multidrug-resistant strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii isolated from intensive care unitsPseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii are becoming the main reasons of infections in the hospitals especially in the intensive care units (ICU). The occurrence of the roots of P. aeruginosa and A. baumannii strains which are highly resistant against numerous antibiotics has required us to make research about the alternative agentsIn this study, it was aim 118 P. aeruginosa and 36 A. baumannii multi-drug resistant (MDR) bacteria isolated ICU at Firat University Hospital and their in vitro activites by using broth microdilution methods; meropenem, cefoperazon/sulbactam, imipenem, and non-traditional antimicrobials such as colistin, rifampicin and doxycycline were used alone or in combination with colistin against these bacteria. Ten out of 118 P. aeruginosa and seven out of 36 A. baumanii were used for synergy studyIn this study; colistin has been found to be the highest sensitive antibiotic against both P. aeruginosa and A. baumannii with the sensitivity rates of 83.8% and 86.1%, respectively. Meropenem has been found to more effective against P. aeruginosa (46.6% vs. 59.3%) while imipenem has been found to be more effective against A. baumannii compared to meroperem (69.5% and 55.5%, respectively). Doxycycline has been found to be more effective than rifampicin (For P. aeruginosa 11% vs. 51.7%, and for A. baumannii 66.7% vs. 75The most efficient combination for P. aeruginosa and A. baumannii has been determined as colistin (COL)+rifampicin (RİF). The COL+RİF combination has been found to have a synergistic effect on 4 (40%) of 10 P. aeruginosa and on six (85.8%) of the seven A. baumannii strains were testedBased on our findings, at this era colistin, rifampicin, doxycycline and so non-traditional antimicrobials might be an alternative treatment option caused infections for MDR P. aeruginosa and A. baumannii. It was thought that colistin and combinations with colistin (especially its combinations with rifampicin), might also be an optimistic source as an alternative treatment option for those bacteria that make a big problem in the ICU.
