Abstract (EN)
Lesion Detecability Comparison of Full-Field Digital Mammography with Screen-FilmMammography in Patients with BIRADS 3-4 Breast PatternSUMMARYPURPOSEFilm mammography has limited sensitivity for the detection of breast lesion in womenwith radiographically dense breasts. We assessed whether the use of digital mammographywould avoid some of these limitations.METHODSA total of 6504 asymptomatic and symptomatic women presenting for screeningmammography and problem solved mamography in the Dokuz Eylül University MedicineFaculty Radyodiagnostic Department Mamography unit underwent digital mammography.Itwas performed three steps elimination to occur comparing group with Mammographies :1. step : 356 subject presenting dense breast was found by screening among 6504 women2. step: 356 subject obtained on 1.step eliminated according to mammographyc examinationtypes.108 subject has previous mammograms revealed with screen- film methods3. step :108 subject obtained on 2.step eliminated according to BIRADS lesion types. 26subject has equal or greater than BIRADS 3 lesion in mammograms (comparing group)Each mammograms scored(good:1,poor:2,bad:3) for massdetectability, microcalcification detectability and visibility of detail of breast tissueMammograms were interpreted by two radiologists with consensus.Ki square test was used to evaluate the results.RESULTSIn the comparing population(26 cases), the mass detectability of digital and filmmammography hasn?t significant difference(P>0.05).However, the microcalcification detectability and visibility of detail of breast tissue indigital mammography was significantly higher than screen- film mammography (P<0.005)CONCLUS ONSThe mass detectability of digital and film mammography is similar, but digitalmammography is more sensitive in microcalcification detectability and visibility of detail ofbreast tissue among women with radiographically heterogeneously dense or extremely densepattern.By virtue of this reason digital mammograpy is modality with superior advantagesaccording to screen- film mammograpy for young or patients taking hormone replacementtherapy.
