The relationship between the leadership behaviors of managers and the organizational commitment of healthcare professionals

The leadership styles developed by the managers in order to be an effective leader in health services significantly affect the performance of the institution and the organizational commitment level of the employees. In this study, it is aimed to examine the relationship between the leadership behavior of the managers and the organizational commitment of the health workers, considering that the leadership behaviors of the managers working in health institutions may have an effect on the organizational commitment of the health workers they work with. According to the results of the analysis of the questionnaire applied to the managers and the health personnel they work with in the Giresun Training and Research Hospital, which was chosen as a sample in the thesis, the effect of the leadership behavior of the managers on the organizational commitment of the health workers was evaluated. 326 healthcare professionals working in the hospital voluntarily participated in the research. The relationship between the demographic information of health workers and their responses was examined. A significant relationship was found between the perception of the leadership behaviors of the managers and the total professional seniority of the health workers. It has been concluded that the perception levels of leadership behaviors are the highest among those who have more years of total professional seniority. The reason for it to result in this way is that the perception of organizational culture and professional competence is higher in employees with higher years of seniority. As a result of the research, it was seen that there is a significant and positive relationship between leadership behaviors and organizational commitment levels of employees. It is thought that it would be beneficial to organize trainings in this field and to exhibit behaviors in this direction in order to learn the leadership behaviors that increase the organizational commitment levels of health care managers and health workers.
