The effect of managers? social intelligence levels on the job satisfaction of employees

Özet (EN)

This study was designed to investigate the relationship between the socialintelligence levels of managers and the job satisfaction of the employees. Therelational scanning model was used in this descriptive study. The population ofthe study consisted of the managers and employees who worked under theumbrella of the Izmir Provincial Social Security Directorate and the relatedcentral directorates. The sampling group of the study was comprised of 68managers and 345 employees chosen with convenience sampling method out of146 managers and 1275 employees. 415 survey forms completed by 68 managersand 345 employees were taken into analysing process. Such analysing methodsas reliability analysis, factor analysis, frequency analysis, confirmatory factoranalysis, t- test for one sample and t- test for incoherent samples, one-wayvariance analysis, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis wereused in analysing data.According to the findings obtained in the study, it was found that whilethe managers thought that they had a bit over the medium level of socialintelligence level in terms of sufficiency, the employees rated them as the oneswith medium levels. The results of the correlation and regression analysing intothe relationship between the job satisfaction and the managers? socialintelligence levels suggest that the social information process and socialawareness, which are the parts of social intelligence, are effective on all thedimensions of job satisfaction. Another finding of the study is that the socialskill dimension of social intelligence had no effect on job satisfaction dimensionsexcept for its management style dimension. The analysing results revealed thatthe management style dimension of job satisfaction is affected by socialintelligence at the highest level.As for the job satisfaction level of the employees, it was found that theemployees? satisfaction levels were a bit lower than the medium. Anotherfinding was that the employees achieved the highest job satisfaction level at the management style dimension while they had the lowest satisfaction level at thedimensions of job gaining and working conditions.To sum up, it can be concluded that the employees found the socialintelligence levels of their managers at medium level in terms of sufficiency. Asfor their job satisfaction levels, it was found that they had a bit lower jobsatisfaction levels than the medium. In addition, the social information processand social awareness levels of managers were found to be effective on theemployee?s job satisfaction while social skills dimension wasn?t effective on it.Key words: Social İnformation Proces, Social Awarenes, Social Skill, SocialIntelligence, Job Satisfaction
