Özet (EN)
Traditional regional footwear represents a tangible reflection of a society's cultural heritage and craftsmanship, shaped through artisanal techniques. The tradition of shoemaking, which has developed across various regions of Turkey throughout history, extends beyond being merely an element of footwear for foot health; it holds significant ethnographic, sociological, and aesthetic value. In this context, regional shoes produced using traditional techniques serve both as a vehicle for cultural continuity and as vivid examples of handmade production practices. The techniques employed in traditional shoemaking require considerable mastery and experience, from material selection to mold creation, stitching to decorative elements. Handcrafted processing of natural leather, dyeing with plant-based pigments, hand-stitching, and shaping using traditional molds are among the most prominent features of these techniques. Regional footwear types such as "Çarık", "Yemeni", "Harik", and "Nalın" showcase the richness and diversity of this craft. Due to the effects of industrialization and mass production, these traditional techniques face the risk of being forgotten. However, in recent years, with the increasing emphasis on cultural heritage preservation and sustainable design principles, traditional footwear production has regained value and has been documented as intangible cultural heritage through various academic studies. Handicraft festivals, vocational trainings, and design-oriented projects aim to transfer these techniques to future generations. Regional shoemaking is not merely a branch of craft, but also a means of cultural transmission. Preserving traditional techniques is of great importance in protecting local identity and supporting the cultural economy. Therefore, any effort to document, protect, and revitalize this production practices will contribute significantly to cultural sustainability.
