Presentation of parent roles on YouTube children's channels and the evaluation of parent's opinions about it

Technology, which integrates with the changes in the economic structure, changes and improves communication. It is observed that parents become a part of social media by producing content in the interest of children. It can be said that the socio-cultural lives of parents who manage YouTube children's channels are shaped within this framework. This study aims to reveal how parental roles are transformed into tabloid acts with the effect of entertainment and consumption phenomena on YouTube children's channels. In the study, a literature review was conducted in order to analyze the relationship between new media and tabloidization and entertainment culture by reading between texts about new media. The contents of YouTube children's channels (Like Nastya TR, Aslıyarence, Korayzeynep) selected by quota sampling technique were subjected to quantitative and qualitative content analysis (semiology). A total of 300 videos were included in the sampling, 100 videos from each of the YouTube channels. The videos were tabulated using the IBM SPSS 22 program. Then, 50 videos selected from 300 videos were analyzed with qualitative content analysis (semiology). Finally, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 15 parents with children under the age of 13, and the interviews were analyzed with descriptive analysis techniques. As a result of the study, it was observed that the parents of YouTube children's channels engaged in entertainment-consumption-oriented magazine action. The impression formed from the interviews with the parents was concluded that their children, who were in the position of spectators, were negatively affected.
