The determination of some yield traits of Akkaraman sheep reared in Şefaatli district of Yozgat province

The aim of this study was to investigate the factors affecting the reproductive efficiency of Akkaraman sheep and the growth characteristics of lambs under breeding conditions in Şefaatli district, Yozgat province. In the study, 581 Akkaraman sheep and 643 Akkaraman lambs of different ages were used in 5 different farms. In the study, number of sheep bred, number of sheep lambing, number of infertile sheep, number of ewes giving birth, number of single-born sheep, number of twin born sheep, number of lambs born female, number of lambs born male, total number of lambs born, number of lambs weaned and birth weight and weaning weight of lambs were determined to determine growth and development characteristics of lambs. In the study, lambing rate was 95.5%, infertility rate was 4.4%, single birth rate was 82.7%, twinning birth rate was 16.6%, female birth rate was 46.9%, male birth rate was 53.1% and litter size at birth was 1.16. In the study, birth weight of lambs was determined as 4.16 kg and weaning weight was determined as 21.50 kg regardless of the farm. In general, the survival rate of lambs until weaning was determined as 95.80 % regardless of the farm. As a result; It was determined that Akkaraman sheep raised in Şefaatli district were similar to the literature findings in terms of fertility and growth and survivability of lambs. However, considering the effect of environmental factors on fertility and growth and survival characteristics of lambs, improving breeder conditions, being more sensitive about care, feeding, herd management and animal welfare will contribute to breeders achieving better results.
